Former city attorney takes plea deal
CAMDEN (AP) — Authorities said the city attorney in Camden has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge for dropping criminal charges in exchange for donations to the city police department’s drug fund.
Camden City Manager Kevin Bronson told city council members that Charles Cushman pleaded guilty last week to being in contempt of court by an attorney and was ordered to pay court costs.
Cushman had been charged with misconduct in office, but Bronson said prosecutors dropped that charge.
Cushman was hired as Camden’s attorney in 1987 and served until his arrest in September. Bronson said the city will cooperate with officials investigating what should be done with Cushman’s law license.
