Police are searching for a man they say robbed the State Credit Union on Beaufort Street this afternoon.
Around 12:15 p.m., a man entered the bank, located at 210 Beaufort St., approached a teller and demanded money, according to Sgt. Jake Mahoney of the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
“Upon receiving an unknown amount of money, he left the business,” Mahoney said.
The man did not present a weapon, and investigators do not believe he was armed, Mahoney said. The man fled the scene in a red or burgundy colored Ford Tempo heading east.
The man is described as a black male, about 6 feet tall, and between 200 and 225 pounds, Mahoney said. He was wearing a red, long-sleeved shirt, light-colored pants and white tennis shoes, and was covering his face with what appeared to be a gray tank top.
There were no injuries reported. Investigators now are working to recover surveillance photos and video from the bank.
The State Credit Union was robbed less than two months ago on Sept. 21. No arrests have been made in that case.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Aiken Public Safety at 642-7620. Individuals also should call CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at 1-888-CRIME–SC. Callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of between $50 and $1,000.
