Get one dozen roses this week while simultaneously feeding the hungry.

Several local florists, in partnership with the Georgia State Floral Distributors, are sponsoring the 12th annual Caring Rose Week through Saturday. During this event, $10 and two cans of food will purchase one dozen assorted roses at participating florists.

All canned goods collected will be donated to Golden Harvest Food Bank.

The roses are all hydroponically grown and are packaged in a rainbow of colors.

“We enjoy doing it. We see a lot of the same people every day,” said Terri Bush Webb with Jim Bush Flower Shop in North Augusta. “We get 100 bunches of those roses, and we always sell out. Four or five people have come in this (Monday) morning. A lot of people bring in extra cans of food.”

For participants who don't donate two cans of food, one dozen roses in Caring Rose Week can be purchased for $12 at participating florists. Two dollars will go directly to Golden Harvest Food Bank.

Every dollar donated to Golden Harvest equals $5 worth of distributed food.
