A Bath man is dead after being shot by an unknown assailant Saturday night, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.
Donnie James Davis, 20, was pronounced dead at 56 Church St. in Bath following a verbal argument between several people that, according to a witness, escalated into gun play.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the Bath residence at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday and found the unresponsive victim lying face down on the floor.
Law enforcement requested EMS respond at which time the victim was pronounced dead.
The witness stated that the incident started when David Rosier of Trenton came to the residence and an altercation ensued.
Rosier then shot Davis in the face with a handgun, according to an incident report from the Sheriff's Office.
Joshua Rosier of Trenton was also present.
The witness reported David and Joshua Rosier then left the scene in a green Ford Explorer SUV.
Additional details remain sketchy at this point in time, according to reports.
No one had been charged in this case as of press time Sunday.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. An autopsy is scheduled in Newberry today.
