Garland and lights are starting to be hung. Stores are starting to pull out their trees and ornaments. Children are starting to skim through the toy catalogs for their wish list items.
It must be that time again – Christmas – and the 26th Annual Christmas Made in The South will be pulling into the James Brown Arena this weekend to join in the area’s starting Christmas season.
Starting today, almost 200 exhibitors will line the center with crafts “ranging from $4 to $5 ornaments to $200 artwork,” said Janice Hunt, Carolina Shows Inc. show coordinator.
“There’s a little bit of everything,” she said. “People bring their Christmas lists (and) come all three days.”
Some hot-buttons items this year include personalized door tree decorations and stars made from sweater pieces.
They’ve been very popular in every city, Hunt said. “Personalization is huge,” she added.
In addition to gourmet food items that vendors will sell, a buffet and concession stand will be set up.
The festival originally started in Charlotte, then branched out to Augusta and expanded from there.
So far this year, it has stopped at Charlotte, Columbus and Macon; after Augusta, it will go to Savannah, Jacksonville and Charleston.
The show is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets are $6 for adults, with free admission to children 12 and younger; one hand-stamp admission grants free access to all three days.
James Brown Arena is located on 601 7th St.
