A 20-year-old Aiken man was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor after he reportedly sexually assaulted a girl at an Aiken playground last month, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Jarrel Royce Stevens, of East Boundary Avenue, was arrested on Friday and placed in the Aiken County detention center. He was released on $30,000 bond.
According to a report, the 13-year-old girl told officers she was sitting on the slide at the Charleston Street park around 6 p.m. on Oct. 19. She said that the man, whose first name she knew to be Royce, came up to her and started talking.
The man then grabbed her by the arm, pulled her into some woods near the park and sexually assaulted her, according to the report.
Officers responded to the girl’s home, where they found her on the couch crying, according to the report.
According to Capt. Maryann Burgess, the partial name the girl gave to investigators was helpful in finding Stevens.
“They just worked the case from there and made a positive ID,” Burgess said.
