Sarah McNamee of Aiken, a sophomore dance and elementary education major at Coker College, will perform in a production of “The Laramie Project” at Coker College. The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14, 15, 16 and 17 in Watson Theater in the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center.
Directed by Assistant Professor of Theater Kindra Steenerson, “The Laramie Project” is a docudrama written by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project.
In 1998, the beating and murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard put a national spotlight on the small town of Laramie, Wyo. Afterward, members of the Tectonic Theatre Project conducted more than 200 interviews with Laramie residents and developed the play to explore the effects of the tragedy on the community.
