Ms. Ann Ashley Wood and Mr. Kenneth Philip Wiland, junior, both of New York City, New York, were married on September 22, 2012 at the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Officiating ministers were The Reverend Doctor Thomas Evan Evans and The Reverend Doctor Kirk Hudson Neely of Spartanburg. The bride’s parents hosted the wedding reception at their home.
The bride is the daughter of Doctor and Mrs. Tyrone Keith Wood of Spartanburg, SC. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Drayton McDuffy Clary, junior; the late Mr. Drayton McDuffy Clary, junior; the late Mrs. Lois Ellen Petty Wood; and the late Mr. William Fulton Wood.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Philip Wiland of Aiken, SC. He is the grandson of the late Doctor and Mrs. Eugene Shipman Armstrong; Mrs. Frank Orban Wiland, junior; and the late Mr. Frank Orban Wiland, junior.
The bride’s cousin, Mrs. Laurie Hendrix Wybenga of Spartanburg, SC, attended her as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Stephanie Caroline Wood of Charleston, SC, the bride’s sister-in-law; Mrs. Shadie Wiland Copeland of Denver, CO, sister of the bridegroom; and Mrs. Carlin Gallman Turner of Greer, SC, cousin of the bride.
The bridegroom’s father, Mr. Kenneth Philip Wiland, was the best man. Groomsmen were the bride’s brothers, Mr. Case McKinley Wood of Charleston, SC and Mr. Jason McDuffy Wood of Charleston, SC; and the bridegroom’s friend, Mr. Stephen Thomas Strickland of Birmingham, MI.
The ushers were the bridegroom’s brother-in-law, Mr. Michael Gregory Copeland of Denver, CO; the bridegroom’s cousin, Mr. James Rezner Barber IV of Clemson, SC; the bride’s cousins, Mr. Tyler Christopher Hendrix of Simpsonville, SC; Mr. Michael Kye Gallman of Pineville, SC; Mr. David Jesse Moody III of Clemson, SC; and Mr. Drayton McClary Moody of Clemson, SC. The program attendants were the bridegroom’s cousins, Miss Leslie Townsend Barber of Greenville, SC; and Miss Marie Katherine Armstrong of Charleston, SC.
The bride is a 2003 graduate of Duke University and received a master’s in business administration from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania. She is a Director of Corporate Strategy at Saks Fifth Avenue, Inc. in New York City. She was Miss South Carolina 2004 and was a contestant in the Miss America Pageant.
The groom is a 2003 graduate of Duke University and received a master’s in architecture from Syracuse University School of Architecture. He is a licensed architect with Oliver Cope Architect in New York City specializing in custom residences. Earlier this year he was awarded first place in a Residential Spa Design contest featured in Architectural Digest.
The couple met as freshmen at Duke University and bonded over their shared South Carolina heritage. They reconnected last year on a plane bound to South Carolina from New York. They were engaged this spring in Central Park. The couple honeymooned in Capri, Italy, and currently resides in New York City.
