The Aiken Department of Public Safety arrested two men today on charges related to two Monday evening robberies in Aiken.
Jeff Berry, 18, has been charged with one count of armed robbery and Stephen Christensen, 43, has been charged with three counts of armed robbery.
The arrests stem from two Monday hold-ups that happened around 10 p.m. The first occurred in the parking lot of PetSmart on Whiskey Road, when a gunman, allegedly holding a rifle, held a victim at gunpoint, took her purse and drove away in a blue sedan.
The second incident followed shortly after, when a gunman, also carrying what was described as a “long gun” or a rifle, entered the Subway at 720 Silver Bluff Road and robbed the business, police said.
Police reported that the hold-ups occurred within 15 minutes of one another.
Investigators were able to follow up on tips received which lead to the subsequent arrests of the individuals. Investigators were assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives R.A.G.E. Unit, a joint gang/violent crimes task force with officers from Aiken Department of Public Safety, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, North Augusta Department of Public Safety, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, and ATF agents.
