Fifth-ranked North Augusta continued its mastery ofWhite Knoll on Friday, downing the host Timberwolves, 36-8.North Augusta improved to 7-1 overall, 1-1 Region 5-AAAA. White Knoll dropped to 4-4, 1-1Region 5-AAAA.

“They’re as good as advertised,” White Knoll head coach Gordon Walters said. “They have some incredible athletes. We came in wanting tocontrol the clock, but we couldn’t sustain anything in the first half and they made some big-time plays that kind of broke our backs.”

North Augusta’sfirst drive stalled at the Timberwolves’ 32-yard line, but the Yellow Jackets scored on their next three possessions and also tallied on special teams totake a 29-0 lead into the halftime break. The two plays that took White Knoll aback were a 28-yard scoring pass from Tyrell Hillary to Montez McGuire on afourth-and-3 play late in the first quarter and a 60-yard punt return early in the second quarter by Trey Morgan.

“That was as good a punt return asyou’ll see, and you just have to tip your cap to those two guys on that pass play,” Walters said.

Hillary rolled right, away from a heavy pass rush, andthrew a strike on the run to McGuire, who somehow came up with the catch despite excellent coverage by White Knoll’s Spencer Sox.

North Augusta finishedwith 359 yards on offense. Hillary completed 13 of 18 passes for 146 yards, and running back Vinny Miller had 185 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 18carries.

“I’m very pleased with the way the kids responded after last week’s devastating loss to Lexington,” North Augusta head coach Dan Pippin said. “It was great to see the defense bounce back with a good effort after giving up 59 points. I’m just proud of the way the team responded this week.”

WhiteKnoll had some success after it went back to its double-wing, power running game in the second half. An interception at the North Augusta 2-yard linehalted one drive, but the Timberwolves produced a16-play, 69-yard scoring drive that concluded with a 4-yard scoring run by Diondre Highbaugh.
