LETTER: Final note from out-going member
Final note from out-going member
It has been a privilege being your elected Board member for the past four years and I would like to thank all the families and friends of Area 4 for their constant support of our schools and students. I have worked with the Aiken County School Board Members and administration to make sure our school facilities were improved and that quality instruction, up-to-date technology, academic resources, and extra curricular activities were provided for our students.
Thanks to all present and past board members whom I served with the last four years for their support of the facilities and students in District 1 (Area 4).
I would like to thank Jimmy West, my financial officer during my election, and for his support then and now. I am grateful to all those who helped me get signatures for my election and I am humbled by those who voted for me.
My family supported me during my tenure. Brock Bass, my son, provided my slogan “This Bass is hooked into education.” Alexis Bass Short, my daughter, and Deborah Bass, my wife, were supportive of my efforts for student success.
Some of the accomplishments include: A. L. Corbett Middle School gym restrooms (to be completed by December; RSM elementary/middle school Phase 1 construction bids should be finished by December; administrative organizational change within Aiken County public education; all high school graduates have graduation ceremonies at the USC Convocation Center; Area 4 office on Highway 39 will be sold; tribunal system implemented for discipline; K-8 structure for Busbee Elementary and A. L. Corbett Middle; valedictorian determined at end of senior year; county-wide alternative school; and the computer platform upgrade to Microsoft Windows 7 for WSH and RSMH.
I leave the board knowing that students are first priority and thanks to all the families and friends in District 1(Area 4) and throughout Aiken County for their continued support of students and schools.
John A. Bass
