Nonprofit agencies are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to bring in funds to further their mission in the community.
Some ring bells at Christmas, others may stand outside local stores asking for donations or selling products to shoppers to bring in money they need to help solve a community issue their organization is most passionate about.
At the SPCA, our philosophy in fundraising is if we are out in the community to raise funds, we want to give donors something fun and interesting for their donation.
At our barn tour, you see eight or nine of the most beautiful barns Aiken has to offer.
In the summer, we’ll wash your dog, trim his nails and even clean out those dirty ears that none of us like to clean.
Later this fall, you’ll be able to join us at Woodside for a round of golf or at Cold Creek Nursery for photos with Santa.
Each event is a great fundraiser, but you get something fun out of it too.
Now that we’ve entered October and opened our new facility, we are proud to offer two additional events that are great fundraisers, but are also fun and entertaining events for any of you that participate, the classic “win-win” situation we like best.
This Thursday marks the premier showing of “Paw Prints – Serena’s Story,” a documentary by Beech Island films, with all proceeds to benefit the SPCA Albrecht Center.
The film will be screened in downtown Aiken at the Aiken Center for the Arts and tickets are $45, with great food, cocktails, coffee, dessert and lots more included.
Tickets are available right now at the new SPCA Albrecht Center at 199 Willow Run Road and tonight only at the Wilcox where Serena and her owners will stop by for a great meal with great friends as they often do on Tuesday nights.
Paw Prints is the story of Serena, a wonderful dog who was a stray with Aiken County Animal Shelter, transferred to Molly’s Militia and who for several years now, has volunteered with the SPCA pet therapy program.
You will meet Serena, her owners Steve and Doris Briggs, and Peter Whitehead, the Canadian filmmaker who conducted extensive interviews with many people whose lives have been improved by the work Serena does for children living with autism, returning injured war veterans, senior citizens and others who light up with her visits.
Two days later, we head back to the new shelter for our Tail Waggin’ Walk, the second annual walk for animals to benefit the SPCA.
Last year’s Reindog Romp in December was a little chilly for dogs and their owners alike, so we moved the event up a couple of months to take advantage of our great fall days in Aiken.
Next year we’ll bring back our Westmuttster event in the fall after a few years away, as we’ve had a dog show of some kind going back to the mid-1930s and our supporters have been asking us to bring it back.
The Tail Waggin’ Walk takes place Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon on the nearly 14-acre campus of the SPCA.
Registration fee of $25 includes your entry, a T-shirt, doggie bag and a bandanna.
Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories including best look-a-like and best costume.
