A multitude of area swimmers took to the pool at the USC Natatorium in Columbia on Saturday in search of victory at the SCHSL Class AAAA State Championship Meet.
Full results weren’t available at presstime, but three North Augusta swimmers came home with individual gold. Two of them came home with a pair of state titles.
The Yellow Jacket girls’ team finished sixth overall, and Nicole Fuller led the way with first-place finishes in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. Kelsey Williams joined her with a gold medal in the 100-yard freestyle and added a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle event.
Eric Collins was the lone gold medalist for the boys’ team, but like Fuller, he garnered two top finishes, winning the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle events.
Swimmers who earned spots at the state meet from other area schools included Aiken’s Abby Deal, Steven Carroll, Hunter Jackson, Kailey Grant, Maggie Schappell, Erin Colster and Hunter Grooms. South Aiken also had several qualifiers for the event, including Evan Freed, Audrey Robinson, Grant Robinson, Megan Allison and Thomas Hang.
Also qualifying for the Yellow Jackets were Elizabeth Creech, Katy Lewis and Emily Sam. Relay teams from all three schools also qualified.
