The Laurens Street Bridge opened up to traffic Friday, October 5.
According to SC Department of Transportation, it took 187 days to complete. The bridge had been closed since April 2 after a corner of it began to sink and it was determined that the entire structure needed to be replaced.
Aiken City Manager Richard Pearce said they are glad to see the bridge operational again and appreciate the effort made by SC-DOT, the construction crews and anyone else involved in the project. Pearce would also like to thank the residents for their patience during construction.
