Snapshots capturing a variety of natural scenes and wildlife from around South Carolina, including Aiken County, make up a calendar that's now available at Birds & Butterflies.
The photos used in the calendar are submissions from the third annual Birds & Butterflies Amateur Photography Contest that wrapped up in late August. Several of the winners' images were used along with some of the other submissions.
This is the second year the store has sold the calendar.
“It turned out very good again,” Ron Brenneman, store owner, said. “The pictures are just excellent. There's a good diversity of pictures and colors. It's very colorful. It really jumps out.”
This year, $1 of each calendar sold will go to the Silver Bluff Audubon Center and Sanctuary in Jackson, Brenneman said.
Paul Koehler, sanctuary director, said some of those photographs could have very well been taken at the Audubon Center where a variety of birds and other wildlife can be spotted.
Koehler said the center has worked with Birds & Butterflies over the last few years on a variety of events or projects and are thankful for the business' generosity. “We really depend on community support to be able to offer this sanctuary to the public, and we really appreciate any support we're given,” he said.
The sanctuary offers education programs for third to eighth grade children and have worked with schools from 11 counties.
Donations received go towards funding those programs.
Brenneman said they printed around 300 calendars but can print more if they sell out.
