Police are investigating a suspicious fire that occurred last week at a duplex located on Boardman Drive, according to a police report.
Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to the fire on April 5 at about 7:30 a.m. and found that the blaze was started in two separate areas of the structure, the report stated. No injuries were reported.
Once investigators were able to gain access of the duplex, they found that all four entry doors had been forcibly open by first responders but they were reportedly locked before the incident. They also noticed damage to the foundation vents and a strong odor of gas, according to the report.
According to investigators, it appeared that the origin of the fire came from the interior of the foundation vents of the structure in which someone poured accelerant liquid and ignited it with an unknown source.
At the time of the report, there were no known suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
