A Graniteville man was detained for DUI after he crashed his vehicle into two parked vehicles early on Tuesday, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Otis Turner Williams, 38, of Railroad Street, was charged with DUI and driving under suspension. He was placed in the Aiken County detention center, where he remained on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident happened about 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday. An officer saw a vehicle touching and crossing over the double yellow lines on Silver Bluff Road, according to the incident report. The vehicle pulled onto Hitchcock Parkway, and the officer used radar to determine the vehicle was traveling 47 mph.
The suspect vehicle’s right tires dropped off the side of the roadway as it approached Oriole Street, and the officer turned on the lights and siren to make a stop, the report stated. The vehicle accelerated, and while the officer was notifying dispatch of the situation, the vehicle ran into the front yard of a home on Oriole Street and struck two parked vehicles.
The officer stopped and took Williams into custody. He could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage on Williams’ breath as he spoke.
The S.C. Highway Patrol was notified and is investigating the crash. The Highway Patrol charged Williams, and there were no charges by Aiken Public Safety.
