Midland Valley 65 Clinton 56
Daniel Carr continued his strong play in the championship game of the Newberry Christmas Tournament and led Midland Valley (11-3) to a 65-56 victory over Clinton. Carr finished with 21 points on 7 of 17 shooting and was named the tournament's MVP. Carr also had six assists and five rebounds in the Championship game.
In the three games the Mustangs played in the tournament, Carr scored a total of 69 points.
Taijah Turner, who pitched in with 16 points, and Kameron Brown were named to the All-Tournament team.
Brown just missed scoring in double digits and finished the game with nine points. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
St. Joseph's 53 Strom Thurmond 44
Strom Thurmond (3-6) suffered its second straight loss to close out the Newberry Christmas Tournament. The Rebels fell to St. Joseph's 53-44 in the third place game on Monday.
St. Joseph's Gene Langan had a double-double in the game with 14 points and 15 rebounds. The Rebels were led by Deontrez Mealing, who scored 12 points. Donte Stover also finished in double figures. He scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Stover was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and made both of his free throw attempts as well.
The Rebels got off to a good start, shooting 60 percent in the first half, before St. Joseph's held them to single digits points in the final two quarters of the game.
Stover was also named to the All-Tournament team.
