Savannah River Remediation is laying off 465 employees later this month as part of its involuntary separation program, according to a letter sent today to SRR employees.

The employees’ last day will be Sept. 27.

In the letter, interim president Stuart MacVean wrote, “Employees have been selected for separation based on forecasts of staffing levels needed to safely support projected scope without the necessity for rehiring of separated employees or backfilling of the positions of separated employees.”

In addition, the selected employees who meet plan eligibility requirements can retire under the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions Multiple Employer Pension Plan. Eligible employees will also receive a preference-in-hiring for positions in the Department of Energy and its contractors.

“I regret that we have to take this step, but I encourage you to avoid the distractions that these workforce changes can cause,” MacVean added in the letter.
