HARDEEVILLE — About 50 people gathered for a rally in Hardeeville asking the Jasper County school superintendent to resign.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that Saturday’s rally was the second one in the past five weeks calling for Superintendent Vashti Washington to quit.

Jasper County schools have received F’s on federal accountability standards in each of the past two years. Parents said the schools are filled with broken computers, lack textbooks and allow bullying to go on unchecked.

Washington has been superintendent for two years. She has dismissed the failing grades, saying the scores have no meaning and come from bad data. The Jasper County Board of Education sided with her last week.
