Darley Stable’s homebred, Midnight Watch, did what she usually does, and went to the front early during Friday’s Riskaverse Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
The chestnut filly broken and trained in Aiken by Tim Jones, set the early fractions, and was in control throughout the 1 1/16-mile race on the track’s inner turf course, responding well to the confident handling of jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., winning convincingly by a one length margin. Kiaran McLaughlin conditions the 3-year-old daughter of Stormy Atlantic.
The Riskaverse Stakes was Midnight Watch’s second stakes start, the fifth turf start of her career, with all five of her races coming during her sophomore campaign.
Midnight Watch has 3 wins from 5 starts, and increased her lifetime earnings to $161,620.
