Joyful Victory’s 7 1/2-length score Sunday in the 1 1/16-mile, $200,000, Grade 2 Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth Park, would have made the race’s namesake proud.
The 5-year-old mare possesses those same courageous attributes, the brave women, including Mary Ludwig Hays McCauley, demonstrated during the Battle of Monmouth during the American Revolution, in capturing her third stakes score of 2013. Jockey Rosie Napravnik rode the daughter of Grade 1 winner Tapit to victory. Larry Jones conditions the winner.
Joyful Victory became a Grade 1 winner with a victorious effort in the Santa Margarita Stakes at Santa Anita Park on March 16. Joyful Victory was equally impressive earlier in the year as she won the Houston Ladies Classic on Jan. 26, a race where she set a track record for 1 1/16-mile at Sam Houston Race Park, covering the distance in an impressive time of 1:42.30. Joyful Victory is a graduate of the Tim and Cary Frommer training program.
The Molly Pitcher was Joyful Victory’s sixth stakes win, and the Ontario-bred mare now has 7 wins, 5 seconds and 3 thirds, increasing her lifetime earnings to $1,222,679.
