Boy dies after being struck by car

A 2-year-old boy was killed on Thursday when he was struck by a car at his family’s home in Wagener, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Ryan Eagerton was pronounced dead at 4:18 p.m. at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

Officers were dispatched to a home on Garvin Drive about 3 p.m. on Thursday, said Capt. Eric Abdullah. The driver of the vehicle was the child’s father, Patrick Eagerton of Wagener.

Investigators have initially determined there is nothing suspicious about the case and it appears to be an accident. The investigation is ongoing.

Suspect ID’d in strong-arm robbery

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has identified Troy Randell Kooy of Aiken as a suspect in the Thursday strong-armed robbery of the Kent’s Korner on Wagener Road.

The Sheriff’s Office received a robbery-hold up alarm notification and 911 call from the clerk of the Kent’s Korner located at 2557 Wagener Road at approximately 5:16 p.m.

The clerk and a witness informed responding deputies that the suspect reached over the counter when the register was open and stole an unknown amount of money, according to Capt. Eric Abdullah.

The clerk and witness described the suspect as a white male, approximately between 6-feet-2- and 6-feet-3-inches tall, with black hair and dark eyes, wearing a dark brown jacket, tan shorts and with tattoos about the face and neck.

Adullah reported the suspect was also described as having had a Band-Aid over his left eye.

Prior to deputies arriving on scene, the suspect fled in a white SUV toward the Couchton area.

Anyone who may have any information on this case is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 803-648-6811 or CrimeStoppers with a tip or information at 888-CRIME-SC.
