A truck driver was hospitalized with serious injuries after his tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 20 on Tuesday morning.
Joe Womack, 50, of Evans, Ga., was traveling westbound on I-20 at 7:55 a.m. when he lost control of his tractor-trailer near mile marker 17, ran off the left side of the roadway and into the median, overcorrected and struck a guardrail on the right side of the roadway when the truck overturned, according to Lance Cpl. Judd Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Womack was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center with serious injuries, Jones said.
His condition was not known at press time on Tuesday.
No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
Jones said Womack was on his way to pick up gasoline when the wreck happened. The truck did contain a small amount of diesel fuel that may have spilled, but Jones said there was no threat to the public.
One lane of I-20 westbound was shut down while crews cleared the scene on Tuesday.
