Approximately 2,500 Savannah River Nuclear Solutions employees who have been subject to reduced work hours since April will return to full-time status beginning Monday.
Savannah River Nuclear Solutions President and CEO Dwayne Wilson announced to affected employees via email Thursday that the necessary funding for the contractor to continue its work for the remainder of FY 2013 will arrive at the Savannah River Site no later than next week.
“Thus, we will immediately begin the process to return employees to their normal work schedules,” he wrote. “Employees should complete this week on their reduced work schedule and plan to return to full-time work status beginning the week of May 27. All employees will be reverted to the schedule they were working on March 31.”
Savannah River Nuclear Solutions is the managing contractor at the Savannah River Site.
The necessary federal funds requested by the Department of Energy for use at SRS were approved on May 15. The request for $79 million had been sitting with the Office of Management and Budget since March 18.
The funding request was geared toward softening the blow of sequestration, which resulted in budget shortfalls, a forced reduction in staff hours and narrowing of the Site's scope of work.
SRNS spokesperson Barbara Smoak said she and others are excited to have employees return to full-time status.
“We're ready to get them back to work,” she added.
