Two suspects in the Saturday shooting death of a North Augusta man were in custody at the Richmond County Jail in Georgia on Sunday awaiting extradition to Aiken County.
Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Demarcus LiQuan Booker and Raphael A. Wooden, both of Augusta, less than an hour following an armed robbery at a Beech Island business, according to Sgt. Jason Feemster of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.
Zann Worrell Jr., 32, suffered multiple gunshot wounds during the incident, which took place at the Island Cuts Barber Shop on Sand Bar Ferry Road. Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton reported that Worrell was pronounced dead at 3:37 p.m. at Georgia Regents Medical Center on Saturday.
Feemster said two men entered Island Cuts demanding money. Worrell, identified by Feemster as the business' owner, fought with the men and was shot multiple times.
The suspects fled the scene in a white Honda and a witness followed the vehicle into Georgia, according to Feemster. The witness reported the vehicle's location and its license plate number to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office via a cell phone. That information was relayed to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office and deputies located the vehicle and the suspects, Feemster said.
Aiken County Sheriff's Office investigators obtained warrants for both Booker and Wooden in reference to murder and armed robbery.
