CAYCE — Preston Tiffany won a third-set tiebreaker to clinch the Class AAAA state title for the South Aiken High School boys' tennis team.
Tiffany rallied after losing the first set to defeat Dorman's Zach McCullough in No. 3 singles. The win completed the Thoroughbreds' 4-2 victory, clinching the team's first state title since 2000, the final year of three consecutive championships for South Aiken.
In No. 4 singles, Petar Zotovic also won a third-set tiebreaker. That was another critical triumph for the T-Breds (19-1), who also picked up wins from No. 5 singles player Jonny Bowman and the No. 2 doubles team of Marko Zotovic and Matthew Willis. Willis was a late addition to the lineup, filling in for Zach Thatcher, who was out with the flu.
The championship is the first state title won by a South Aiken team since boys' soccer won the Class AAA crown in 2009.
