CHARLESTON — Former Gov. Mark Sanford is getting some help from his successor in his bid to regain his old 1st Congressional District seat.
Gov. Nikki Haley is scheduled to be a guest Wednesday at a campaign fundraiser for Sanford in Mount Pleasant. It’s the first time Haley will have appeared at an event during this campaign for her one-time mentor.
Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer confirmed the appearance on Monday.
Sanford faces Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch in next month’s special congressional election. Colbert Busch got some fundraising help last weekend when her brother, comedian Stephen Colbert, attended a Charleston event.
Campaign fundraising reports show Colbert Busch has raised more money than Sanford. But, with the money Sanford had from previous campaigns, the two have had about the same resources.
