Man wanted for alleged assault with machete

Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly struck a woman with a machete multiple times, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Officers responded to a disturbance at a home on Alfred Street at about 11 a.m. on Saturday, according to a police report.

Family members told the officers that the victim had been struck in the head multiple times with a machete.

The 18-year-old female victim told officers she and the suspect started arguing, and a physical confrontation took place, according to the report.

The suspect then grabbed the machete and struck her in the head with it, the report stated.

The suspect then threw the machete into the corner of the room and fled the home on foot, according to the report.

A search dog team was called to search for the suspect, but no contact was made with him.

Officers will seek warrants against the suspect for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Three detained on drug, alcohol charges

Three people were detained on open container and drug charges after officers found a pickup parked crooked in a handicap space at a restaurant on Friday, according to Aiken Public Safety.

The incident happened about 6:15 p.m. at a restaurant on Richland Avenue, according to a police report. Officers saw the driver of the truck putting a beer can into his cup holder, and later observed two beer cans in the front cup holders.

The driver, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated, told officers he didn’t drive there because he didn’t have a license due to a prior DUI, according to the report. While waiting for additional units, officers saw two more beer cans open in the backseat area.

The two other passengers in the vehicle, a male and a female, later came outside from the restaurant, according to the report. They each admitted to owning one of the open beer cans in the car.

When the woman asked for her purse that was in the back seat, the officer retrieving it saw “what appeared to be marijuana” stuffed in the top of the purse, according to the report. The woman told officers she was “delivering that for a friend.”

Inside the vehicle, officers found a small metal scale inside the glove box, according to the report.

The woman was charged with open container in a motor vehicle and simple possession of marijuana. The male passenger was charged with disorderly conduct and open container in a motor vehicle. The man in the driver’s seat was charged with disorderly conduct, open container in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
