LETTER: Secure the nation’s borders

Secure the nation’s borders

Reform of this country’s laws regulating Immigration may or may not be necessary, that view is certainly debatable.

What is not debatable is that both Democrats and Republicans are pandering for the Latino/Hispanic vote. What is not debatable is that business desires the cheap labor provided by undocumented workers.

Even worse, the marketing industry is encouraging a bilingual society by its practices; the entrance to Lowes and the labels on cans are prime examples.

What is not debatable is that the current laws regulating immigration are not being enforced or there would not be more than 10 million undocumented people in the country.

Again, what is not debatable is that it is beyond stupid to attempt reform of the nation’s immigration laws without first securing the borders of this country against the invasion. There are reports, that given the discussion of immigration reform and possible amnesty by the gang of eight, the number of border crossings has increased dramatically.

This was vividly demonstrated during a recent visit to the southern border by Sens. McCain and Schumer. Apparently, in their presence a woman scaled an 18 foot fence to gain admittance to this country. So much for border security.

Other countries secure their borders, why don’t we? The obvious answer is that the majority of those in the federal government, both Democrats and Republicans, don’t want a secure border.
