Jim and Debbie Miller’s graded stakes placed mare Maude S, who finished third in her 2013 debut, returns Saturday in the 35th running of the 1 1/8-mile, Grade 3, $200,000 Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne Race Course. The 5-year-old daughter of Jump Start drew post position no. 3, is 8/1 on the morning line, and will be reunited with jockey Jeffrey Sanchez. Maude S was broken and trained by Todd Turner at W.C. and Iris Freeman’s Chime Bell Farm, and was sent onto Legacy Stable’s Brad Stauffer and Ron Stevens for additional conditioning at the Aiken Training Track.
The Jimmy DiVito charge won the final start of her four year old campaign impressively, scoring a 3 3/4-length victory in a 1 1/16-mile race at Hawthorne Race Course, and the bay mare will return to the site of her previous victory on Saturday. Maude S has won five times, with four of her victories coming at the Cicero, Ill.-based track.
Maude S last breezed a half-mile on April 17 at Keeneland, working in 50 2/5 seconds. The mare has 5 wins, 5 seconds and has placed third 6 times, earning $199,350.
