SUMTER (AP) — A Sumter man has been accused of causing the death of his bed-ridden wife by neglecting her.
Sheriff’s deputies said they were called to the home of 78-year-old Louise Wilson on March 15. Authorities said they had to force their way through a door, which was blocked by trash on the inside.
Wilson was found unconscious in a bed. Authorities said she had open sores on her back and an unknown green substance on her legs.
Wilson was taken to a hospital but died a week later. Her husband, 74-year-old Isaac Wilson, has been charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death.
It wasn’t known if Isaac Wilson had an attorney. Deputies said he initially told authorities they couldn’t come in the house until he had cleaned up.
