An Aiken woman is now dead after she was struck by a vehicle while walking on the sidewalk on York Street Saturday with her 2-year-old son.
Lukisha Nicole Thomas, 29 years old of Aiken, her son, and a man, Ray Charles Wooden Jr., were walking south on the sidewalk of York Street around 2 p.m. Saturday when a 2006 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Thomas G. Woodruff Jr. of Aiken, left the roadway and struck Thomas and Wooden, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
Thomas and Wooden were transported by ambulance to Georgia Regents University shortly after the incident. Thomas was pronounced dead at around 3:40 p.m. from multiple body trauma following surgery, Calton said.
Wooden is currently in surgery and his condition is unknown, Carlton said. Thomas' son was evaluated and has been released from Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
An autopsy on Thomas is scheduled for Monday in Newberry, Carlton said. The collision is being investigated by the Aiken County Coroner's Office and the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
