Ga. Southwestern 1-3 USC Aiken 0-1

The USC Aiken softball team was unable to secure a victory in a doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern on Friday evening.


USCA (17-13-1, 4-6 PBC) dropped game one to the Hurricanes (20-20, 4-8 PBC) by a slim 1-0 margin. The Hurricanes scored three runs to take game two by a 3-1 score.


The Pacers will next be in action on Tuesday, March 26 when nationally fourth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State comes to J.H. Satcher field for two games. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.


Game one between the Pacers and Hurricanes featured a stellar pitching performance from India Kornegay (9-7). Kornegay pitched all seven innings of action, striking out 13 and only giving up one run.


Kaitlyn White led the USCA offense, accounting for two of the six hits. White was 2-for-3 in the game. Brittney Williamson, Victoria Burkett, Andrea Daring and Shannon Traylor each came away with a single hit to account for the other four Pacer base knocks.


Allison Pastor earned the win for Georgia Southwestern. Pastor garnered her ninth win of the season.


Hayley Knight and Elliott Martin both came away with multiple hits for the Hurricanes. Knight was 3-for-4 and Martin was a perfect 2-for-2.


The second game between Georgia Southwestern and USCA saw five innings of dominant pitching from both teams. The game was tied at 0-0 until Georgia Southwestern and USCA each scored a single run in the sixth inning. Georgia Southwestern would add two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the 3-1 victory.


The Pacers were only able to secure one hit in game two, which came in the sixth inning off of the bat of White. White tripled to right-center field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sarah Montei.


USCA's Taylor Morgan struck out six Hurricanes in seven innings of work. Morgan dropped to 8-6 on the season.


Georgia Southwestern was led by Knight in game two. Knight was 2-for-3 in the game with two runs batted in.


Ashley Cavender came away with her sixth win of the year for Georgia Southwestern. She pitched seven innings and only the surrendered the one hit.
