Pacers’ bats overwhelm Trojans in win
The nationally 13th-ranked USC Aiken baseball team scored the first 10 runs of the game and never looked back in a 10-6 non-conference victory over Anderson on Thursday evening at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
USCA(17-5) concluded its win out-hitting Anderson (5-21), 19-7.
Three Pacers finished with three hits each in the victory over Anderson.
Josh Miller led the way for USCAin the game. He was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Bryce Baur and Bill Gerstenslager both also had three hits in the game. Baur was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Gerstenslager was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Six Pacers in total finished with multiple hits.
Continuing his recent tear, Ty Barkell extended his hitting streak in the contest to 13 games by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. He tripled in the contest.
USCA’s Sean Miller was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Ben Donath had two RBIs and one run scored to go along with his 2-for-4 performance at the dish.
Paul Como homered in the game for the Trojans.
USCA had six pitchers see the mound on Thursday with the six combining to strike out 11 Trojans.
Pacer starter Jake Padgett picked up his first victory of the year by dealing five innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed just two hits and struck out five.
Anderson starter Stephen McKnight (1-3) suffered the loss. He pitched three innings, allowing seven runs and 10 hits.
USCA’s Taylor Grover picked up the last out of the game for USCAto claim his Peach Belt Conference-leading sixth save of the year.
USCA will next play host to Young Harris at the ‘Bert for the first time as PBC opponents. USCA and Young Harris will open their three-game league series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
