The motorcyclist who died Thursday night after being struck on Jefferson Davis Highway has been identified as Rachel Baker of North Augusta, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
South Carolina Highway Patrol reported Baker was traveling near Aiken Technical College when she swerved to avoid hitting an animal in the roadway, lost control of the 2007 Kawasaki, and fell off the motorcycle.
Baker was then struck by two vehicles, a 1999 Ford pickup truck and a 2004 Ford SUV.
She suffered multiple body trauma and was pronounced dead on the scene at approximately 9 p.m., Carlton reported. Baker, 24, was not wearing a helmet, according to Highway Patrol. The drivers of the two vehicles were wearing seatbelts and were not injured.
Toxicology is pending. The accident remains under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol and the County Coroner's Office. This is the 7th traffic fatality in Aiken County in 2013.
