Dear Scott: Robin Roberts recently came back on the show “Good Morning America” after having cancer treatments. She has been doing interviews the whole time of treatments and has never worn a wig. I thought she would come on the show with a wig and was surprised when she didn’t. I see your column and wanted your view on this. My girlfriend and I have been going at it. She thinks she is being brave by going without hair, and I think it’s a publicity stunt.

Answer: Is she going wig-free for publicity? Anyone that battles this disease deserves to be able to pull out the cancer card whenever they want. If all Robin Roberts gets out of the fight of her life is a little bit of publicity, she will be lucky. She has been an incredible story to follow. Being beautiful without hair is one of them.

Roberts is an excellent illustration for anyone undergoing cancer treatments that cause the loss of hair. Pictured with a hat a few times, I haven’t seen her wearing any wigs throughout her treatments. She has looked beautiful with every interview. If she was being brave to go without a wig, she didn’t have to be.

In an interview, Roberts said she had a wig picked out for her return to the program. It was mid-length and dark in color. And it had bangs. After realizing that the first major interview on her schedule was with Michelle Obama, she decided not to wear it.

Right now her hair is very short, but she does have hair. I think she pulls the look off with immeasurable style. No wig was necessary when Robin was seen at the Oscars wearing a brilliant cobalt-blue MarcBouwer gown. On the other hand, Sherri Shepherd of “The View” has a new line of wigs. She promotes them on a daily basis by wearing a different wig every day on the show. Extremely diverse in colors, lengths, curly and straight, she looks completely different on a daily basis. Is she doing it for the publicity? Of course she is, but she provides women undergoing cancer treatments with an alternative.

Shepherd caused eyebrows to rise when she first started to change her hair on a daily basis on the show. But by doing so, she also demonstrates that any woman can have extremely different looks just by changing her hair. Great news for those stuck in a rut.
