††The Department of Energy and Savannah River Remediation signed a revised “partnering” agreement, two years after creating the first partnering agreement in DOE-Environmental Management.

The first agreement was a pilot that has been used as a guide for other DOE sites. Partnering is aimed at fostering a more collaborative working relationship between the public and private entities. Both called the past two years a tremendous success.

In years past, conflict between contractors and Site owners has hindered productivity, according to reports. The agreement aims to foster collaborative working relationships that contribute to safe, compliant and cost-effective execution of the Savannah River Site liquid waste operations contract objectives.

DOE Manager Dave Moody said this update to the original agreement shows that the partnering concept is alive and well.

“We at DOE view the partnering relationship with SRR as an opportunity to see our work from each other’s point of view,” Moody said. “While both DOE and SRR continue to work well together, the partnering agreement brings our people and our processes closer together to find win-win solutions. This next generation agreement brings us even more in line with our core values and mission.”

The mission of the agreement reads: “This Partnering Team will work together in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of this charter to achieve the contract commitments for safely treating and disposing of radioactive waste and closing high-level waste tanks at SRS.”

This month, key DOE and SRR representatives convened in Aiken and actively participated in a “Partnering Workshop.” This led to changes in the agreement to ensure it reflected new elements of work.

Dave Olson, SRR president and project manager, said the employees discussed in-depth how to better ensure success of both organizations.

“The essence of this agreement is continuing to have open and honest communications, which serves as an underpinning of effective partnering,” Olson said. “We are very pleased with the results of our partnering work relationship.”
