A Beech Island man was detained on numerous charges, including robbery and drug charges, after he allegedly robbed and assaulted his ex-girlfriend outside her home, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
Shawn Franklin West, 39, of Old Double Springs Road, was charged with strong arm robbery, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of other controlled substance, possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine or cocaine, criminal domestic violence, fraudulent checks and driving under suspension.
He was also served three bench warrants for driving violations and was placed in the Aiken County detention center.
The incident happened just before 8 a.m. on Monday at the victim’s Beckner Trail home in Aiken, according to a sheriff’s report.
The 34-year-old victim told officers West showed up “unwelcome” at her home and demanded money to purchase gas for his vehicle, according to the report.
When she refused to give West money, he struck her in her left eye, knocking her off the porch, according to the report.
The victim told officers West then took her purse off her shoulder, which contained jewelry, money and cards, according to the report.
West was arrested on Tuesday. The victim said they lived together for three to four years, according to the report.
