An Aiken man was killed in a traffic collision Sunday evening when his motorcycle hit a truck on Silver Bluff Road.
Keith Charles Grubbs, 29, was traveling west on Silver Bluff Road at a high rate of speed when he struck a Ford F-250 driven by David Johnson, also of Aiken County, according to the coroner’s office. Grubbs was riding a 2001 Suzuki GSXR 750.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:58 p.m.
Grubbs was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Georgia Regents University emergency room.
Johnson was attempting to make a left turn onto Herndon Dairy Road when the collision occurred. Witnesses report that the motorcycle driver was going in excess of 100 miles per hour, the coroner’s office reported.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The coroner’s office reported alcohol is considered to be a contributing factor along with excessive speed.
Toxicology is pending.
Grubbs was riding with several other motorcyclists; however, none of them were injured or involved in the crash.
