Man detained for misuse of 911
An Aiken man was detained for misuse of 911 after he reportedly called County dispatch while intoxicated and became belligerent with a dispatcher and first responders, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
Dana Derek Owens, 46, of Lander Lane, was placed in the Aiken County detention center, where he remained on Friday night.
According to a sheriff’s report, Owens called 911 and began calling the dispatcher a racial slur and using profanity. Officers arrived and found Owens, who they said was “extremely intoxicated.”
Owens made no threats toward himself but said “he was pissed at the system” and began cussing at the officer and EMTs that responded, according to the report.
