Gov. Nikki Haley is set to make a significant capital investment announcement today in Columbia, one that will create a number of jobs in the area.
The announcement is expected at 9:30 a.m. Haley will also talk about a new recycling goal for the state.
These announcements are a part of RecyclonomicsSC Legislative Day, the goal of which is to raise awareness among South Carolina’s political leaders and citizens about the positive economic contribution of the recycling industry, according to a media advisory from the Clare Morris Agency.
RecyclonomicsSC is a nonprofit organization formed to increase recycling in South Carolina in order to improve the economy of the state. By recovering materials from the general public and industry alike, recycling sparks economic growth and can help create new jobs.
Investment in recycling is on the rebound. Last year, the S.C. Department of Commerce helped recruit 770 jobs and $463 million in capital investment within the recycling industry involving companies such as U.S. Fibers in Edgefield, Grace Plastics Inc. in Greenville, Nucor Corporation in Darlington, Pratt Industries in Spartanburg, and LowCountry Biomass LLC in Jasper.
