LETTER: These cuts don’t mean much
These cuts don’t mean much
President Obama has ordered the cabinet to cut $100 million from the $3.5 trillion federal budget.
We are so impressed by this sacrifice that we have decided to do the same thing with our personal budget and you may want to also bite the bullet.
For example, if you spend about $2,000 a month on groceries, household expenses, medicine, utilities, etc., and get out the budget axe cutting personal spending at exactly the same ratio as the government, the savings are astounding. After doing the math, rather than spending $2,000 per month you would have to cut that amount by 6 cents. Yes, you would need to get by with $1,999.94, but that is what sacrifice is all about. Just doing without some luxuries – 6 cents worth.
Did this president actually think no one would do the math? More people need to understand how meaningless these cuts are on our huge annual budget and our escalating national debt. It’s ludicrous.
I can hardly wait for the final word on the fiscal cliff financial impact. For example, Obama’s tax increase on the rich that would only raise enough money to run the government for six days. Then what? Maybe we would be better off if all the folks in Washington found a cliff, or at least, included cuts in their own benefits and compensation. Right, when pigs fly!
