The day was mildly warm as people watched with their families and friends as the 39th annual Edgefield Christmas Parade marched down Main Street on Sunday at 4 p.m.

For Shenna Williams it was a family event, out and in the parade.

“We love it,” she said, as her cousin Courtney Williams and daughter Ashley Williams sat on the curb next to her. “It's good for the community to get together.”

Shenna Williams' son appeared in the parade with the Merriwether Middle School from North Augusta, where he is part of football and basketball teams.

Aiken Electric Co-Op, Edgefield Mayor W. Ken Durham, Edgefield District Masonic and Lillie Jackson, 2012's Miss Peach Blossom, showed in the parade.

Augusta's T.W. Josey High School, U.S. Army Signal Corps and Johnston's Strom Thurmond High School were some of the bands to play in the parade.

Various people threw candy out from their floats, which the children eagerly grabbed and collected.

Young Ashley William's jacket's hood was full of her candy before her mother placed it in a bag for her.

Ashley said her favorite kind of candy is bubble gum.

According to the Edgefield Daily, pictures with Santa were available afterward. In addition to the City, Pendarvis Chevrolet, SRP Credit Union, Jim Satcher Motors, Herlong Ford/Chevrolet, Edgefield American Legion, Edgefield Mini Storage and Trenton Self Storage sponsored the parade.
