USCA vice chancellor given alumni award

The College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management at the University of South Carolina announced its 2012 Outstanding Alumni Award recipients on Nov. 9 at a reception held at the USCís Rutledge Chapel.

Joe P. Sobieralski was named as an award recipient. He is a 2001 alumnus from the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Managementís Department of Sport and Entertainment Management. He currently serves as vice chancellor for business and finance and chief financial officer for USC Aiken. In this position, he oversees a $55 million institutional budget and a number of the universityís strategic business functions, including human resources, purchasing and contracted services.

Prior to being named vice chancellor at USCA, Sobieralski served as director of business and finance for auxiliary enterprises and university life at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. From 1999 to 2003, he served as the assistant to the associate athletics director for business with the University of South Carolina Athletics Department. Sobieralski also holds a masterís degree in accounting from USC and bachelorís in accounting from USCís Darla Moore School of Business.
