Give Aggies their due respect
I read the entire sports section of the Nov. 25 Aiken Standard and failed to find a story, or even a mention, about the Texas A&M win over Missouri. How can this be?
The Aggies are a member of the SEC, but no write up in the SEC Roundup. Checking out How the Top 25 Fared, still no A&M score; last time I checked they were ranked at No. 9. Moving on to the College Football Scores surely the score is at least listed. No it wasn’t. The A&M game was carried nationally on ESPN2 at the same time as the South Carolina Clemson game on ESPN, so it is not that the sports editor could not obtain a recap of the game. I noticed most of the game highlights were from the Associated Press which, therefore, leaves only one conclusion: The editor chose not to print the A&M game. Why? Could it be that the new kid (A&M) on the block (SEC) came in and knocked off the odds on favorite to win the conference and possibly the national championship? Or perhaps this is the reason: Johnny Manziel, in the Missouri game became the SEC passing yardage leader for a single season, moving ahead of Cam Newton and Tim Tebow. They both are Heisman Trophy winners by the way. I’ll leave it up to you to figure out.
I will never expect to see Texas A&M in the headlines of the sports section, unless they defeat the University of South Carolina at something. I do reserve the right to have my team at least mentioned when they perform, win or lose, on any athletic field in the SEC.
