Keith Blandford, a Navy veteran and Charleston area construction executive who has run twice for Congress as a Libertarian, said he plans to run against U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., in two years.
Blandford said he has formed an exploratory committee to look at running both as a Republican and a Libertarian candidate. If he loses his bid for either party’s nomination, he won’t be on the November 2014 ballot.
Blandford recently received 2 percent of the vote in his run against incumbent Republican Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and Democratic challenger Bobbie Rose. Blandford acknowledged his fight against Graham will be uphill, in part because the incumbent already has a $4.3 million warchest.
