The Aiken Department of Public Safety has arrested a Beech Island man in connection with a shooting incident that happened at a Richland Avenue motel last month.
Marcus Antwan Washington, 23, was arrested in Augusta on Sunday. He was charged with armed robbery, according to a statement from Aiken Public Safety. He was placed in the Richmond County jail.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. on Oct. 23 near a stairwell in the upstairs breezeway of the Knights Inn on Richland Avenue, police said. Two armed men reportedly came to the motel to rob a man, who had called them and asked them to meet him there.
A fight between the three men resulted in one of the armed men getting shot, police said. The two armed men then allegedly fled the scene.
Kevin Jamell Walker, 23, of Clearwater, was charged on Oct. 30 with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. He was placed in the Aiken County detention center, where he remained on Thursday.
Police initially believed one of the armed men was shot during the struggle but could not confirm that on Thursday.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives R.A.G.E. Unit and the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division assisted in Washington’s arrest.
