Ideas to help voting process
Why are all of the politicians surprised that we had long lines at the polling places last week, presidential years always bring out the largest numbers of voters. This year there were two ballot questions (and most voters read each one in the ballot booth) and several write-in candidates, which required lots of time to type onto the ballot.
Iíve worked polls for several years, and this was a predictable election day under the circumstances.
Two ways to ease the crowd problems: Expand early voting to include all registered voters; or, assign voters to particular times of the election day (A to G from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., e.g.). The former should help considerably, the latter, not so much.
By the way, there were a lot of areas across the country where folks stood in line much longer than here in Aiken. We should applaud every voter who stood in line for hours in order to vote.
