An accused murderer, who reportedly shot and killed a 20-year-old Bath man over the weekend during a dispute over drugs and a woman, is in jail, officials said Monday.
On Saturday, witnesses told Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies that David E. Rosier Jr., 45, of Nickelson Road of Trenton, shot and killed Donnie James Davis, 20, of Dixie Clay Road.
On Monday, deputies charged Rosier with Davis' murder.
Capt. Troy Elwell said Davis was found dead inside a home at 56 Church St. after Rosier and his son, Joseph “Josh” Rosier, confronted Davis.
They reportedly got into an argument over drugs and a woman, the captain said.
Elwell said there were a number of people at the home when the dispute erupted.
At least one person pulled out a knife, and another was armed with a handgun, he said.
The elder Rosier did not bring the gun to the home, Elwell said, but witnesses said he did pick up the weapon and shoot the victim.
Deputies initially linked the junior Rosier to the shooting death but later said he was involved in the assault alone and had nothing to do with the homicide.
Joseph “Josh” Rosier will be charged with assault and battery.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said autopsy findings show that Davis was shot once in the chest and cut with an “edged weapon” during Saturday's dispute.
The gunshot delivered the fatal blow, he said.
